Astaxanthin Prevents Skin Deterioration

In prior studies it has been found that Astaxanthin, when combined with Phytosterols from Saw Palmetto, has an effect on the hormone profile that has positive implications for not only hair growth, but health as well. In 2 published studies, it was found that that this specific combination, like Propecia, produced significantly reduced baseline-subtracted serum DHT and E2 (Estrogen) levels in comparison to the placebo control group and resulted in an average 38% increase in serum testosterone levels in comparison to the placebo control group.

This particular study concluded that this combination can favorably influence serum hormone profiles in men.

This favorable influence to which they allude, also has a positive effect on hair growth and skin aging. In fact several studies have been published documenting the profound anti-aging effects Astaxanthin supplementation has on human skin.

Stimulate Hair Growth and Have Younger Skin with Astaxanthin

This just released study found that oral Astaxanthin supplementation in both low (6 mg.) and high (12 mg.) doses stopped age elated skin deterioration (wrinkle parameters and skin moisture content) in all supplemented subjects, with the higher dose exhibiting a measurable inhibition of interleukin-1a levels in the stratum corneum.

Abstract

Astaxanthin is a carotenoid with potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity. To evaluate the anti-inflammatory effect of astaxanthin on skin deterioration, we confirmed its role in epidermal-dermal interactions in vitro. Astaxanthin treatment suppressed ultraviolet B (UVB)-induced inflammatory cytokine secretion in keratinocytes, and matrix metalloproteinase-1 secretion by fibroblasts cultured in UVB-irradiated keratinocyte medium. To verify these findings, we conducted a 16-week clinical study with 65 healthy female participants. Participants were orally administered either a 6 mg or 12 mg dose of Astaxanthin or a placebo. Wrinkle parameters and skin moisture content significantly worsened in the placebo group after 16 weeks. However, significant changes did not occur in the Astaxanthin groups. Interleukin-1α levels in the stratum corneum significantly increased in the placebo and low-dose groups but not in the high-dose group between weeks 0 and 16. This study was performed in Japan from August to December, when changing environmental factors, such as UV and dryness, exacerbate skin deterioration. In conclusion, our study suggests that long-term prophylactic Astaxanthin supplementation inhibits age-related skin deterioration and maintain skin conditions associated with environmentally induced damage via its anti-inflammatory effect.

Other studies have indicated that doses as low as 3 mg. a day of Astaxanthin have a measurable anti-aging effect on facial skin wrinkle depth, laxity, and ultra violet light protection. In terms of its effects on skin, this study implies that more may in fact be better.

Because Astaxanthin is a fat-soluble antioxidant, its absorption has typically been low. In fact, some studies show that as little as 50% of oral Astaxanthin is absorbed into your bloodstream.

To mitigate this issue, our Astaxanthin blends 4 mg. of natural Astaxanthin with a proprietary blend of 80 mg of four phospholipids in its Astaxanthin with Phospholipids to facilitate maximum absorption of Astaxanthin into the bloodstream, where it's transported to cells throughout the body. This formulation has been shown to enhance carotenoid absorption by several-fold, so you can attain the full benefit of this powerful and natural antioxidant.
