German Research Confirms Stress a Major Factor in MPB
Stress has been intuitively known to be an aggravating factor in virtually all medical conditions including hair loss. The Italian research team of Gigli, Marliani, and Campo spuriously discovered the hair growth effects of Resveratrol/Curcumin when studying its effects on PSA in older males with prostate problems. They concluded that these hair growth effects were due the ability of this specific combo to quell neurogenic inflammation, which occurs specifically in response to stress.
Neurogenic inflammation, and the resultant hair loss and miniturization, occurs in response to the local release of inflammation mediators such as Substance P, Calcitonin Gene-Related Peptide (CGRP), and neurokinin A (NKA).
This process plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of many disorders including migraine, psoriasis, asthma, fibromyalgia, eczema, and androgenetic alopecia, all of which are classically known to be initiated or aggravated by stress.
This research from a German medical school further supports these findings.
Stress, Hormones and the Hair Follicle

The hair follicle is a key endocrine organ producing and responding all relevant factors of the classical stress-axis, the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis and the sympathetic axis. It was therefore proposed to view the hair follicle in the center of a local equivalent of the central stress response. In addition the hair follicle is intimately connected to the central nervous system through its dense and complex innervation. Through this connection a third stress-axis employing neuropeptides and neurotrophins can mediate centrally perceived stress-stimuli and directly affect hair growth, hair loss and cutaneous immunity. The net effect results in increased hair loss after acute stress-exposure. Thus the hair follicle is a true
mirror of our emotional well being, the amount of experienced stress and our capacity to cope with them. Future research efforts will focus on the analysis of stress-habituation and “anti-stress” hormones and their role in hair follicle biology and treatment of androgenetic alopecia.
The inflammatory effects of stress and neurogenic inflammation on hair resulting in hair loss can be readily addressed by using a combination of Optimized Resveratrol and Super Bio-Curcumin.
To quote the research of Gigli, Marliani, and Campo :
The group of patients that has assumed only Resveratrol didn't show any modification on the PSA, while the group treated with Resveratrol and Curcumin showed with great surprise a reduction, sometimes also relevant, in variable time periods. Moreover, during this testing, the patients treated with Resveratrol and Curcumin surprisingly showed positive improvements in the treatment of psoriasis and the attenuation and even a stop of the hair loss, a reduction of the hair graying and the rebirth of hair in bald areas sometimes even of the original color too.
There are several mechanisms by which the combination of Optimized Resveratrol and Super BioCurcumin benefit both health and hair growth.
* Increases glutathione levels
* Neutralizes free radicals
* Strongly inhibits pathways that lead to hair loss inducing neurogenic inflammation
* Normalizes inter-cellular antioxidant systems
Super Bio-Curcumin and Optimized Resveratrol produce a synergistic benefit. Super Bio-Curcumin is the most advanced and bio-available Curcumin on the market, and represents an improvement over the 95% extract used by the Italian Research team. Quercetin, which is part of the Optimized Resveratrol formulation is a confirmed adrenal normalizer that also reduces stress hormone levels. This combination effectively stimulates hair growth by quelling neurogenic inflammation, even in the presence of continued stressors.
Inflammation associated with MPB can also be directly intervened upon via the topical application of Emu Oil, which is particularly effective at stimulating hair growth in a receding frontal hair line.
