OPTIZINC - Optizinc is an established 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor and oral treatment for acne, an androgen mediated disorder. Zinc deficiency, though rare, will reliably cause some degree of hair loss.
Zinc is often taken with B-6 to potentiate its 5-alpha-reductase inhibiting properties. We strongly recommend that Pyridoxal, not Pyridoxine be used for maximum benefit. Although some use zinc sulphate topically as a treatment, this is generally contraindicated unless the formula also contains some copper peptides, (Dr. Pickart). Although Zinc sulphate by itself or perhaps with Azelaic may inhibit 5-alpha-reductase, without copper peptides it could leave the hair follicles significantly more vulnerable to inflammation.
Directions: 1-2 capsules daily.
