As women grow older and under periods of stress, their natural production of estrogen and progesterone goes down, resulting in increased cortisol, unpleasant menopausal symptoms, accelerated aging, and often hair loss.
Hormone replacement drugs are available by prescription, but new studies are exposing the inadequacies and dangerous side effects when these synthetic therapies are used for long periods. A growing number of women are turning to plant-derived extracts as a natural alternative.
The latest funding to support the use of plant hormones comes from a six-month study assessing the effects of soy estrogen presented at the International Congress of Gynecology in Washington D.C. Results indicated that 85% of female subjects reported a significant improvement in menopausal symptoms including hair loss, while 75% of them had lower cholesterol levels. Brazilian researchers led the study attribute the positive health effects of certain plant combinations to the estrogen mimicking hormones they contain, called isoflavones. The isoflavones unlike conventional estrogen treatments (Premarin, Provera) , caused no apparent swelling of the memory glands or endometrium. Such changes are known to be associated with an increased risk of breast or uterine cancer.
Other new research shows that isoflavones protect against osteoporosis by preserving bone mineral density and bone mineral content and post-menopausal women.
A US patent was recently issued to a biotech firm for the use of soy isoflavones as a treatment for both male and female hair loss.
Natural Estrogen is a dietary supplement that provides standardized plant extracts to help relieve menopausal symptoms, while offering hormone-modulating effects that are essential for health maintenance in hair loss prevention in women over 40.
