The following literature review of twenty peer reviewed, published studies concluded that both oral administration and topical application of Green Tea Catechins were an effective intervention for androgenetic alopecia, otherwise known as male and female pattern baldness. We have been recommending the use of Green Tea Extract, particularly with a high content of EGCG, its most potent constituent, as part of any treatment regime for many years.

Green Tea counters hormonal hair loss via several mechanisms. It regulates and normalizes levels of Sex Hormone Binding Globulin, (SHBG) which are documented to be significantly suppressed in men with MPB. It also confers an anti-inflammation effect body wide, including hair follicles, which is the stated basis for L’Oreal’s inclusion of Green Tea Catechins in their patented oral hair loss treatment, Hair Mass. Were that not enough, Green Tea in combination with an even minimal level of Soy Isoflavones, dramatically drops blood levels of DHT, and add a source of sea vegetables and pro-biotics to that combo, and you facilitate the production of Equol, a dietarily produced, systemic anti-androgen that essentially handcuffs DHT, without any of the side effects of Propecia.

Abstract

The purpose of this brief review is to summarize all in vitro, in vivo, and controlled clinical trials on green tea preparations and their uses in dermatology. An extensive literature search was carried out to identify in vivo and in vitro studies as well as clinical trials. Twenty studies were assessed and the results suggest that oral administration of green tea can be effective in the scavenging of free radicals, cancer prevention, androgenetic hair loss, and skin aging plus protection against the adverse effects associated with psoralen-UV-A therapy. Topical application of green tea extract should be potentially effective for atopic dermatitis, acne vulgaris, rosacea, androgenetic alopecia, hirsutism, keloids, genital warts, cutaneous leishmaniasis, and candidiosis. There are promising results with the use of green tea for several dermatologic conditions; however, the efficacy of oral and topical green tea has not always been confirmed.

We particularly recommend the use of Mega Green Tea Extract, the most potent, and most cost effective Green Tea Extract, with the highest dosage of EGCG, on the market. One capsule of Mega Green Tea Extract has the polyphenol equivalent of 10-15 cups of Green Tea. If you attempted to drink that much Green Tea in a day, you’d be spending about $60.00 a month, be up all night, and spend your remaining day going back and forth to the bathroom.
