In both Academia and the Bio-tech industry, understanding of the pathophysiology of Androgenetic Alopecia (AGA) and Age Related Hair Loss has improved and this has paved way for continually better diagnostic and therapeutic options. Some recent research has focused on the role of stem cells in the pathophysiology of Hair Loss and has also identified a newer treatment target and treatment for the condition.

Age related hair loss, medically known as “senescent thinning”, generally occurs with advancing age, independent of hormonal factors. This can be readily observed in older individuals, whose hair can become wispy with a see through quality, despite the absence of any Androgenetic patterned loss.

The role of stem cells in this age related progressive miniaturization was recently discovered in a just published study in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology.

Abstract

Changes in the hair cycle underlie age-related alopecia, but the causative mechanisms have remained unclear. Chen et al. point to an imbalance between stem cell-activating and -inhibitory signals as the key determinant of age-related regenerative decline. Further, they identify a secreted protein, follistatin, that may be able to shift the balance toward renewal.

The Anti-Aging Rejuvenating Scalp Serum is a recently developed topical treatment that works for both Androgenetic and likely Senescent thinning by activating stem cell production in the dermal papilla, with the use of Argan Fruit Stem Cells.

How do Argan Fruit Stem Cells Reverse Hair Loss?

Argan Fruit Stem cells would appear to prevent and reverse both hormonal, and now age related hair loss by similar mechanisms. Simply put, they stop the both age related and androgen mediated depletion of dermal progenitor stem cells. Additionally, and perhaps more importantly, they stimulate dormant root stem cells, and stimulate cellular repair processes.

The Anti –Aging Rejuvenating Scalp Serum, in addition to Argan Fruit Stem Cells, uses Procyanidin B2, a topical treatment patented in Japan, as an adjunctive hair growth stimulant, which has been shown in several studies to far outperform Rogaine. Proanthocyanidin B2, due to its unique ability to prolong the growth (anagen) phase and dramatically reduce the shedding (telogen), appears to reverse the course of AGA.

In a human study, researchers observed that 43 men with male pattern baldness who applied Procyanidin B-2 twice daily to their scalp area for one year exhibited a significantly greater total number of hairs in a targeted scalp area than those who applied a placebo.

In another double-blind, controlled clinical trial, balding men ranging in age from 30 to 57 applied either a topical application of Procyanidin B-2 or a placebo twice daily to the scalp area for four months. At the study’s end, 78.9% of patients in the treatment group experienced increases in average hair diameter versus only 30% for the placebo group. Equally noteworthy, the Procyanidin B-2 group also had a significantly higher ratio of hairs measuring 40 microns or more in diameter than the placebo group, demonstrating an improvement in hair thickness.

These substantial hair-increasing effects led the team of researchers to recognize Procyanidin B-2 as a promising treatment for male pattern baldness.

Although its effects as a sole treatment for senescent hair loss are unclear, Procyanidin B-2 as a hair growth potentiating adjunct to the Argan Fruit Stem Cells, would be useful for those who are dealing both AGA and age related hair loss.

Given the identified mechanism of diminished Stem Activation underlying age related hair loss, there exist a clear rationale for the usage of Argan Fruit Stem Cells for anyone, including those unaffected by AGA, who wish to maintain full hair thickness with advancing age.
