Can Black Tea Help Hair Loss? DHT and Study Limits
Short answer: Black-tea compounds have produced mechanistic and animal findings involving androgens, nitric oxide and hair growth. No cited controlled human trial shows that black tea combines the clinical effects of finasteride and minoxidil.
What evidence relates to DHT?
Theaflavins inhibited 5-alpha-reductase activity in rat microsomes and affected androgen signaling in prostate cells. A mouse prostate-model study also reported hormone changes. Neither tested human scalp hair.

What about blood flow and nitric oxide?
Vascular or nitric-oxide effects can suggest a possible mechanism, but improved circulation is not itself proof of hair regrowth. A clinical hair-loss claim requires objective human hair outcomes.
What about topical hair growth?
A fermented black-tea extract affected coat regrowth in mice. Mouse coat models do not establish efficacy for androgenetic alopecia in people.
How should this evidence be used?
Treat it as preliminary research. It does not support describing black tea as equivalent to Propecia and minoxidil, recommending it as a substitute, or claiming it is free of adverse effects.
